500 WHITE VIENNA KOHLRABI SEEDS FRESH HARVEST FOR 2024 GARDENS

500 WHITE VIENNA KOHLRABISEEDS Cultivating White Vienna Kohlrabi: An In-Depth Guide Kohlrabi is a unique vegetable that falls under the cabbage family and is prized for its bulbous stem. White Vienna Kohlrabi is one of the most popular varieties, known for its pale green or purplish-white skin and crisp, tender flesh. If you’re interested in growing your own White Vienna Kohlrabi, this in-depth guide will walk you through the necessary steps. 1. Choosing the right time: White Vienna Kohlrabi is a cool-weather crop, so it’s best to plant it in early spring or late summer. This allows it to thrive in the cooler temperatures and prevent bolting. 2. Choosing the right location: Select a spot in your garden that receives at least six hours of sunlight per day. Make sure the soil is well-drained, loose, and rich in organic matter. Kohlrabi prefers a slightly acidic soil pH between 6.0 and 7.5. 3. Sowing the seeds: Prepare the soil by removing any weeds or debris and loosening it with a garden fork or tiller. Create shallow furrows about ½ inch (1.2 cm) deep and sow the seeds thinly, spacing them 4-5 inches (10-12 cm) apart. Cover the seeds with soil and gently tamp it down. 4. Providing adequate water: Keep the soil consistently moist, but be careful not to overwater as it can cause root rot. Water the plants deeply, providing around 1 inch (2.5 cm) of water per week. Ensure good drainage to avoid waterlogged soil. 5. Thinning the seedlings: Once the seedlings have emerged and reached a height of 2 inches (5 cm), thin them out to give each plant enough space to grow. Thin them to a final spacing of 8-12 inches (20-30 cm) apart. Thinning will provide enough room for the bulb to form properly. 6. Controlling pests and diseases: Kohlrabi is generally a low-maintenance plant, but it can be susceptible to certain pests like cabbage worms, aphids, and flea beetles. Monitor your plants regularly for signs of infestation and use appropriate organic pest control methods if needed. Protecting young plants with row covers can also be helpful. 7. Harvesting the kohlrabi: White Vienna Kohlrabi is typically ready for harvest in about 60-70 days from sowing. You can determine if it’s ready by checking the bulb’s size, which should be around 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) in diameter. Use a sharp knife to cut the stem just above the ground level, and be careful not to damage the roots. How to Grow: Plant ¼ to ½ inch deep in an area with well-drained, loamy soil. If planting in cool season, select an area that will get full sun. Choose partial shade if growing in the warm season. Seeds will sprout best in soil around 70 degrees F. After 2 weeks, thin seedlings so they are spaced 8 to 12 inches apart. Water the plants regularly, but take care not to over water. Mulch the soil heavily after first freeze. The plants can sometimes produce leaves throughout the winter. When to Harvest: Kale is ready to harvest when the leaves are about the size of your hands. Avoid picking the terminal bud at the top center of the plant, as this will keep the plant productive. Only pick about a fistful of leaves per harvest. 100+ Seeds Chinese Kale Kailaan Chinese Broccoli Gai Lan Choi vegetable USA

Chinese Kale Kailaan Chinese Broccoli Gai Lan Choi(White flower) Chinese kale vegetable (Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra) is an interesting and delicious vegetable crop that originated in China. This vegetable is remarkably similar to western broccoli in appearance, and is thus known as Chinese broccoli. Chinese kale vegetable plants, which are sweeter tasting than broccoli, are high in vitamins A and C, and rich in calcium. Planting: Growing Chinese broccoli plants is extremely easy. These plants are very forgiving and do well with minimal care. Since these plants grow best under cooler conditions, if you live in an exceptionally warm climate, choose slow-bolting varieties. Seeds can be planted as soon as the soil can be worked and planted throughout the summer and fall. Sow seeds ½ inch apart in rows spaced 18 inches apart, and in full sun. Seeds usually germinate in 10 to 15 days. Chinese broccoli also likes well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Care of Chinese Broccoli Seedlings should be thinned to one plant every 8 inches once they reach 3 inches tall. Provide water regularly, especially during dry spells. Provide plenty of mulch in the bed to help retain moisture and keep plants cool. Leafhoppers, cabbage aphids, loppers, and cutworms may become a problem. Watch plants closely for insect damage and use organic pest control if necessary. Keep the garden free of weeds to promote healthy plants as part of your regular care of Chinese broccoli. Harvesting: Leaves are ready to harvest in about 60-70 days. Harvest young stems and leaves when the first flowers appear. To encourage a continuous supply of leaves, pick or cut the stalks using a clean sharp knife, about 8 inches from the top of the plants. After harvesting Chinese broccoli, you can use it in stir-fry or lightly steam as you would kale.
